Pittsburgh prints collection, ca. 1843-1982 / compiled by Wesley Pickard.

The Pittsburgh Prints Collection contains 43 prints, including lithographs, etchings, watercolors, engravings, and periodical illustrations, that primarily date between 1843 and 1898 with a few created in the 1970s and early 1980s. The prints depict a variety of Pittsburgh landmarks, including bridges, downtown buildings, commercial and industrial establishments, and civic institutions that show the city before and during the period of industrial development in the nineteenth century. Many of the images show buildings that no longer exist, such as the original St. Paul's Cathedral on Grant Street, Pittsburgh Market and Court House, the old Iron City Brewery, and the Pittsburgh Female College (now Chatham University). Others include images of the Great Fire of 1845 and the burning of the Union Depot during the 1871 Railroad Strike. Additionally, there are bird's-eye views of Downtown and the Point as well as regional sites, such as McKeesport and New Kensington, the Johnstown Flood, the Tobyhanna River Valley, Washington and Jefferson College, and the Western State Penitentiary. Many different artists are represented, including Nat Youngblood, Otto Krebs, S. V. Albee, and Karl Bodmer.
